The “couvert” is a tradition in many restaurants, especially in Portugal. It consists of a selection of appetizers served before the main meal, such as breads, olives, butter or spreads. “Boards” generally refer to cold cuts, which can include cheeses, sausages, fruits and nuts, served as a snack or starter, often accompanied by bread and sauces.
